The post harvest festival of the Chin-Kuki-Mizos Kut Festival also known as the "Chavang Kut"and Miss Kut 2016 celebrated at 1st Manipur Rifles Compound, Imphal on 1 November 2016 organised by The Manipur State Level Kut Committee. ZOLENGTHE group had an interaction with the winner of Miss Kut 2016 – Daisy Moirangthem.

ZOLENGTHE: Hi Daisy, thanks for giving us this opportunity to interact with you and congratulations.
DAISY: It’s my pleasure to meet ZOLENGTHE team. Thank you all for giving me this opportunity to keep in touch with the Kutters.

ZOLENGTHE: How do you feel having won a Miss Kut title through tough competition?
DAISY: I feel so excited and ecstatic and because of this tough competition it helped me to improve my self confidence and self esteem and also it made me stronger. And I’m so grateful to my parents, sister and my designer.

ZOLENGTHE: What/who inspires you to contest the coveted Miss Kut?
DAISY: Actually my designer ‘Tom Sharma’ inspires me to contest Miss Kut. And my parents and family supported me a lot

A proud moment in her life
ZOLENGTHE: Which tribe’s costume did you wear throughout the contest and why?
DAISY: I wore the Vaiphei traditional attire. During the rehearsal, we were made to pick the traditional attires through lottery system. We can’t pick what we want.

ZOLENGTHE: If you were given the free hand to choose what you want, Which one would it be?
DAISY: I like all the traditional attire. Each traditional attire is beautiful and different in their own ways, but if i have to choose one i think i ll still choose vaiphei attire, there is no specific reason for choosing vaiphei attire, its just i am more familiar with Vaiphei tribes..

ZOLENGTHE: Do you think having won Miss Kut crown has improved your status, why?
DAISY: Yes in some ways it has improved my status as people started recognizing and respecting or giving me more regards. And I’ve gained so many supporters who love me and uplift my status. And I truly thank all my supporters because they are the one who improved my status.

ZOLENGTHE: Did you expect to win the Miss Kut title in the first place? Why?
DAISY: I expect  that I’ll be among the top 3 but I didn’t expect that I’ll win the Miss Kut title since it was my first time experience and I didn’t  have that much confidence as there are other contestant who has more experience  than me.

ZOLENGTHE: How did you prepare for the Miss Kut contest?
DAISY: I prepared both mentally and physically. And also I put all my efforts and time to it.

ZOLENGTHE: Do you think the Miss Kut cash prize is attractive enough to go for it in top gear?
DAISY: Yes, to me the cash prize is attractive enough, with the cash I got to do few things that I’ve wanted, even I will get a chance to donate to few helpless people with my own earning which I consider it as a blessing. But I don’t mind much about the money, the Miss Kut title itself is more than enough for me. It gave me so many opportunities and widens my perspectives towards life.

Pursuing her dream of becoming an IPS Officer - NCC 'C' Certificate 'A' grade holder
ZOLENGTHE: The Kut Committee implores Miss Kut title winners to donate a portion of the cash prize for charity. What is your plan?
DAISY: I’ve already made the plan to donate to one old age home and one orphan home. And I am so glad to get such a chance to help at least few people with all my hearts. But Because of some personal problem it has been delayed but I’ll be donating this week.

ZOLENGTHE: Can you tell us which homes are the lucky ones?
DAISY: I think it would be better to make a surprise than pre-announcement.

ZOLENGTHE: Some people feel that Miss Kut contest should be restricted to the Kut celebrating tribes only. What is your take on this issue?
DAISY: In my opinion, Kut festival is for every community. From time immemorial, every community has celebrated together as one. And if it is restricted to the Kut celebrating tribes only then other communities won’t get a chance to know the importance of celebrating Kut festival and its inner meaning. Since Manipur is a land of diversity, let’s all try to live in unity and celebrate each and every festival together so that there will be peace and communal harmony.  Even in Kut festival logo, it is written as “unity through culture” which is very clear that we all should celebrate as one.

ZOLENGTHE: What about love and romance, can you share your views or experience in this?
DAISY: Actually, I haven’t been in love or experience love, so I couldn’t say much about it.

ZOLENGTHE: A lot of former Miss Kut winners or the contest participants either got married into families of commendable social status or got movie offers from local digital film makers. What about you? Have you got any offer from prospective "guys" or film makers?
DAISY: Yes I do get some offer, but for now I don’t have any plan to be an actor. First I want to fulfil my aim in life and I want to put this as my first priority since this is what I want and what my parents want.

ZOLENGTHE: You mentioned about your aim in life, can you tell us?
DAISY: Of course I can, it is to become an IPS officer.

ZOLENGTHE: Wow! That’s awesome; wish you to fulfil your dream.
DAISY: Thank you let this dream of mine come true.

ZOLENGTHE: Your message to aspiring Miss Kuts?
DAISY: The thing I want to say to all the aspiring Miss KUT is that it is the best platform where we can raise our voice and opinions. It also uplifts the women society in many ways. And it gives us a big opportunity in every way. It also helps us to gain confident, self esteem and made us stronger.  And one thing I want to clarify is that there is no such thing as corruption in Miss Kut contest, everything is fair, and you just try your best and be confident about it.

ZOLENGTHE: Can you recall some of the questions which were asked during the contest?
DAISY: I am not sure if I could recollect all correctly or not, but let me try, here it goes...

Q: Do you think it is correct for a husband to while the woman stays as a housewife?
Answer: No specific rules that a man or woman should or should not work. But I think the husband should work because women have better hands at handling the household, it has been so since time immemorial.

ZOLENGTHE: While looking at your facebook profile, it seems that you are fond of Korean lifestyle, how far do they influence in your lifestyle?
DAISY: Yes, I’m very fond of Korean music, dramas and their entertainment programs. But I am not that much influence by their lifestyle because we have our own beautiful lifestyle and I enjoy it.

ZOLENGTHE: Manipuri movie world immensely get improve and has become career oriented. What would be your option if you get offer from the movie makers?
DAISY: It is true that Manipuri movie world immensely get improved and has become career oriented. But for me as I have mention earlier I want to fulfill my aim in life first.

ZOLENGTHE: Your message to the "Kut celebrating people"? Any tip to bring Kutting sub-nationalities together?
DAISY: To all the Kut celebrating people, I hope Kut festival always bring unity, communal harmony and peace among the people of Manipur. And let’s all celebrate and enjoy Kut festival every year together as one. And let’s not differentiate among us.

ZOLENGTHE: What do you like about Kut festival?
DAISY: What I like about Kut festival is that it brings unity through culture among the people of Manipur. Without regards of ethnic groups or community, every community participates and celebrates Kut festival. As for example, we can see that in this contest every community whether it be Kukis or Nagas or Meiteis participates and enjoy together as one. It also highlights the cultural heritage of Kuki-Chin-Mizo tribes and reveals their inner meanings, values and understandings.

ZOLENGTHE: How can we make Manipur a better place to live?
DAISY: We can make Manipur a better place to live in by improving ourselves and by improving each and every one of us.

ZOLENGTHE: Something related to our state current affairs, what is your opinion that some section of the society claims that the Meiteis are also tribal.
DAISY: Since the ancient history of Manipur, it is unclear and disputed; it is a very doubtful question. Different people have different opinion. Some may agree and some may not. As far as I know, Meiteis are not tribes.

ZOLENGTHE: As we all know, Manipur is a small India where every community harmoniously live together since time immemorial. But since few years back, there are lots of issues arises between the hills and valley people. What says do you have on these developments?
DAISAY: It is true that every community harmoniously live together since time immemorial.  But few years back, there are lots of issues arise between the hills and valley peoples. To remove these issues, the hills and the valley peoples need a co-operation and mutual understanding between them. We need to listen to one another and decide the best. For example, the ILP issues: To settle these issues, one group should not decide what they want only, we need co-operation, understanding, discussions and consultations among the groups to live harmoniously together like before.
