Widening of Tedim Road in Lamka Town – Who’s Responsibility?

If you ask every individual who passes through the congested Tedim Road in Lamka town about widening the road, I hope 99 per cent would agree to the proposal. Everyone knows that it is congested and needs to be widened and road divider needs to be installed.

Lamka town, as we know is the meeting junction for all the people of the district. It is the main town of market linkage for all types of business from far and near. We all know that the existing road width is not adequate to accommodate increased density of traffic. Pavements are narrow, disconnected and occupied by shop owners. Human and vehicles have to fight for space on the road. There is no road proper dividers and all the turning points are as narrow as that of IVRs.

ZOLENGTHE, one of the biggest social media on Facebook collect the opinion of its members regarding their opinion on the need to widen Tedim Road in Lamka town. Within 7 days of the opinion poll, 299 responded the poll and this is the outcome.

The chart shows that 96.32 per cent of the respondents agreed to the opinion poll, 2.34 per cent says no and 1.34 per cent of the respondents are not aware of its importance.

Now, the questions that need to ponder are:
  1. Do the responsible authorities are not aware of such a congested road in the town?
  2. What stops them to put up a proposal for widening the road?
  3. Do the responsible authorities does not see the occupied pavements?
  4. Do the responsible authorities enjoy seeing the unmaintained drainages during rainy season?
  5. Do the general public or CSOs does not know that their town is no longer sufficient to accommodate their movement?
  6. What is stopping us? Who is stopping the District Administration, and at what level?
